 featuring his famed Puha Productions work on “WAIHEKE EVENTS,” Jane Zusters ( Kai Tahu) with her piece ” WAI ” part of her ongoing Te Waipounamu rivers series as Artists for Save our Water collective.  Also from Oneroa, Paora Te Oti Takarangi Joseph of Ngā Rauru, Te Atihaunui ā Paparangi  and Producer/Co-director Janine Martin (pictured below)

 with an extract of their latest  documentary “RAUKOTAHI” on Whanganui and Pakaitore and they will screen “WHERE THE HEART IS” a 5 minute short of Sister Dorothia from Jerusalem also on the Whanganui River. From Surfdale Bianca Ranson of Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Kahu ki Whaingaroa (pictured below)Bianca Ranson - Matariki Shortspresents her work in progress on her mahi (working title) HIKOI RANGATAHI E ! A trek of Waiheke by a group of young Māori exploring the realms of Tane Mahuta ( God of the forests) and Tangaroa ( God of the seas). From Onetangi Whetu Fala of Ngā Rauru, Ngāti Maru ki Uta, Ngāti Maniapoto, Rotuma, Samoa an extract from WAIHEKE WAIATA MAI made by Waiheke Islanders especially for Matariki 2013 and also an animation she produced in 2007 for Tahu Communications, Mō Tātou exhibition NGAI TAHU CREATION ANIMATION in te reo Māori with English sub-titles, Narrator: Kukupa Tirakatene Concept by Rakiihia Tau Snr as told to director Rachel Rakena and animation by 3D artist Kurt Adams, Sound by Paddy Free,  Executive Producers Adrienne Anderson and Gabrielle Huria.

“There’ll be something for everyone and It’s a great way to mark the beginning of Matariki and spend a cosy afternoon at the gorgeous Waiheke cinema” says filmmaker and Producer of the event Whetu Fala “Last year I co-produced Matariki Maori Wahine film festival Waiheke a three day film event however funding for small, one-off events has been tight this year, but thanks to AUCKLAND COUNCIL CREATIVE COMMUNITIES and our great line-up of entrepreneurial local filmmakers we have another special Matariki short film celebration on Waiheke” says Fala.

Matariki is a traditional Maori festival that marks the end of the harvesting of food and preparation for the coming winter. It begins from the rise of the Matariki (Pleiades) star. It is a time of resting, feasting and contemplation. Its’ contemporary revival in recent times has seen a blossoming of a wide range of events, none more so than the MATARIKI SHORTS WAIHEKE Sunday 9 June, Waiheke Community Cinema 5pm – 7pm, Oceanview Road, Waiheke.
